What would be a good wedding gift for my friend?
My best friend is getting married, so I need to buy a wedding gift but I'm unemployed so can't really afford much, also I have no idea what he may like, and I don't get along with his wife to be at all so I'm even more clueless about what she may like they're also not registered. Should I still buy a wedding shower gift?
I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding and I'm also a hairstylist and I did the bride to bes hair at no cost about a month ago so we could see how she wanted her color and highlights for the wedding. So now the wedding is three weeks away and she wants me to color her hair again and also add in clip in extentions which she is going to buy those and I'm also going to be styling her hair the day of the wedding. We are also planning the shower with the other bridesmaids which is another expense. I guess I just don't want to look like a cheapskate at the shower if no one sees a gift from me. But I feel like I've already given at least 3 gifts by coloring her hair twice and styling it at the wedding. Any suggestions on the appropriate way to handle this would be appreciated. Stardaze...I'm well aware of the responsibility of getting the shower gift if your a bridesmaid. The point was is that I'm doing services that would normally cost someone a$100 or more a pop highligts,color, cut plus styling hair at the wedding. I did not offer to do this it was just kind of expected based on conversations so I'm trying to figure out a way to count these services as a gift without it looking like I didn't give a gift.

Special gift ideas for the in-laws?
My mother in law and father in law have birthdays 2 days apart. They do SO much for us we just had a baby he is 4 months old and they LOVE him so much their first grandchild they buy everything for him, they have stayed overnight with him once a week to give us a break...so anyway I wanted to do something very special for their birthdays this year...the problem is that we don't have a ton of money, but we could spend a little bit. I have been trying to think of ideas for months and now it is just a couple days away and I've got nothing They enjoy outdoors camping, hiking, kayaking , but their other kids have that covered already in their gifts. I was thinking a gift card to a nice restaurant for them, but it seems impersonal maybe?Anyone have any ideas?
What do I do with this strange gift from my mother in law?
Last Christmas my mother in law asked for a small list of things we'd like for Christmas. This is usually quite hard for us to come up with because the exchange feels rather awkward. So, we sat down and came up with a couple of things. We're not by any means well off but we hardly are in need of anything...so I asked for a pair of slippers for around the house. I had just had a baby and was going to be spending a lot of time at home. Slippers seemed fair and inexpensive. My husband made his own list and off it went. Come Christmas time, we all eagerly awaited the gifts for the new baby, and the pile dwindled and last came my gift. I cracked the box open and .....oh my god...my mother in law got me a pair of traditional native moccasins complete with black rabbit fur that goes half way up mid shin. They're red leather and a ton of beading. Now, I think they're nice. But, I'm not exactly native I understand that non natives can wear moccasins nor have I ever expressed interest in...traditional moccasins. She thought that they were amazing. She went on about how they were made on a reserve and how they're real leather and fur and how some lady stitched the beading....I have to tell you folks it took all of my will not to die of embarrassment as I put them on. Here I am, wearing my Christmas day outfit dawning these gaudy and tacky moccasins. They've sat in my closet in their original box ever since. Now we're about to move and I have been considering what to do with them. I took a moment to look up the brand and make on line and they are apparently 100$ That shocks me but doesn't surprise me. My husbands mother blows money like that on awful things. I am appreciative for the gift but also a little frustrated. I tried to keep it simple and ask for something fairly fool proof and this is what happened. This isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened either. The year before she bought me a house coat that looked like some one skinned the dog from Blues Clues sigh . What do I do with these darned things? I feel awful throwing them away but I really find them quite ugly. The handwork on them is nice and I'm sure that SOMEONE out there would like them, but not me....
